I Understood The Differences Between Stitches By Serger Sewing Machines At Last!

Serger Sewing Machine is otherwise called as over lock sewing machine. It is because that these machines are specialized to create over lock stitches.  These sewing machines were not for residential purposes when it was introduced, but they were are all widely used to satisfy the commercial tailoring needs. Serger creates complete, perfect seam in the stitches of the fabric. These types of strong stitches were found only in the readymade garments and it was thought impossible to create seamed stitches at home. But Serger sewing machines made it possible for domestic stitching too.

I was amazed to see the perfection in the stitch when two different fabrics are joined together by a seamed stitch using these machines. The stitch by Serger at home is very perfect like the ready made commercial stitches. There are many stitches possible by Serger sewing machines.

The first type is the 2 thread method. This creates a closed stitch seam between the fabrics and these stitches are very safe.  The second type is the 3 or 4 thread method. This uses three or four threads separately to complete the stitching. The 3 threads form the perfect stronger stitch and the fourth thread goes as a wider stitch and provides additional stitch safety. These types of stitches form a hemming kind of stitch under the fabric which runs from the top to the bottom of the edge of the fabric creating a perfect finish. The third type is called as the 5 thread method. The Serger sewing machines with the 5 thread capability are more expensive since they make the perfect safe stitches on the fabrics.  The three of the five threads work on to create an over lock stitch and the remaining two threads of the five forms a line of strong seam. These stitches are the ones we see in the readymade clothes.

Knitting stitches are also possible in these machines. The effect and speed created by pedaling the mechanical sewing machines are made simple by the Serger sewing machines. The knits come out perfect by adjusting the machines input feed for stitches that are of knit types.  Cover stitches are another type created on the collars of the shirts or hand cuffs of the shirts. They are made easy with the help of Serger sewing machines.
